Cannon auto repair

Now that school is just around the corner, you will see lots of children out and about on the streets and sidewalks. An auto center wants to remind drivers to take time to review safe driving rules for school zones and neighborhoods to help prevent auto-pedestrian accidents. All drivers need to recognize the special safety needs of pedestrians, especially children, the elderly, disabled and intoxicated. These are the most frequent victims in auto-pedestrian collisions.  As a driver, you can prevent an urgent visit to an auto shop, or even more importantly, a visit to the ER.

The following tips offered by an auto center will help our children, and all other pedestrians, arrive safely at their destination:

  • Pedestrians typically have the right-of-way at all intersections. You as a driver are obligated to exercise great care and extreme caution to avoid striking pedestrians at all times.
  • When stopped at a red light or waiting to make a turn, drivers should not block the crosswalk, even with just a portion of your vehicle over the crosswalk. This forces pedestrians to go around your vehicle and may put them in harm's way.
  • When warning flashers are blinking in a school zone, you must stop to yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within a marked crosswalk or at an intersection with no marked crosswalk.
  • Always stop when directed to do so by a school patrol sign, school patrol officer or designated crossing guard.
  • Children are the least predictable pedestrians and the most difficult to see. Take extra precautions to look out for children in school zones, residential areas, playgrounds, and parks, where children may be playing.
  • Don't honk your horn, rev your engine or do anything to rush or scare a pedestrian in front of your car, even if you have the legal right-of-way.

Remember: Review the safety tips and rules above to help prevent auto accidents (a visit to an auto shop), accident-related injuries (an emergency visit to a hospital), and save lives!
